Why Santiago, Chile might be annoying:

    Less than a year after its founding, it was destroyed by a native revolt during the Arauco War (September 11, 1541)
    Early settlement was impeded by repeated flooding of the Mapocho River.
    It has been struck by multiple earthquakes.
    Air pollution frequently exceeds World Health Organization standards, especially in winter when thermal inversions cause smog to build up.
    Although it is Chile’s capital, the legislature has been meeting in Valparaiso (located 75 miles away) since 1990.

Why Santiago, Chile might not be annoying:

    Temperatures rarely fall below freezing in winter.
    It is the financial and cultural center of Chile.
    The Gran Torre Santiago is the tallest building in Latin America, at 984 feet.
    It has the most extensive subway system in Latin America.
