    He married three times, including a seven year marriage to Elizabeth Taylor.
    He earned his party's Senatorial nomination only after his opponent died in a plane crash.
    He upsets many Republicans by often breaking ranks with the party's platform.
    Angry Republicans started a ‘Dump Warner' campaign due to his centrist politics.
    He voted to uphold Roe v. Wade, but has also voted in favor of abortion restrictions.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was re-elected to the Senate with more than 80% of the popular vote (2006).
    He condemned anti-gay comments made by Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman, General Peter Pace (2007).
    He is one of the few Republicans who supported gun control.
    He earned a law degree from the University of Virginia.
    He served in both World War II and the Korean War.
