Oddity

The Resume

    (1977- )
    Born in Montana
President of the local Spokane chapter of the NAACP
Eastern Washington University adjunct professor of Africana studies
Came under national scrutiny when family members informed Spokane’s KXLY television station that she had been passing herself off as a black woman despite being white (12 Jun. 2015)
Under investigation by Spokane city officials for potential code of ethics violations (June 12, 2015)

Why she might be annoying:

Her last name is difficult to pronounce.
She is either delusional or a liar (or both).
She claimed to have been 'born in a tepee' in Montana.
She claimed to have grown up 'hunting with a bow and arrow' for food.
She claimed that 'Jesus Christ' was written as a witness on her birth certificate because the area they lived in was so remote that no other witnesses were present.
She inspired the trending Twitter trolling meme, '#AskRachel.
She claimed that she would be 'uncomfortable' going to an 'all-white' Tea Party rally.
She falsely claimed in her bio to have been the victim of 8 documented hate crimes.
She went through great lengths to identify a black man she took photos with as her father (they are of no relation).
She allegedly told one of her siblings 'not to blow her cover' and tell that she was actually white.
She tried to pass off her black adopted brother as her son, gaining full custody of him by alleging abuse by his parents (her brothers have since accused her of 'turning him racist' towards whites).
She claimed to have been abused by her stepfather to the point where they no longer speak, but she doesn't even have a stepfather.
She also claimed that her mother beat her and her siblings with a slave 'baboon whip' because of their skin color.
She claimed to have received lynching threats and hate mail from the KKK and Neo-Nazis, but curiously the letters in question weren't even post-marked.

Why she might not be annoying:

She claims to have survived cervical cancer.
The revelation opened up an interesting conversation about racial identity politics and white privilege.
She aggravated professional race huckster, Tavis Smiley.
But, she was defended by professional race huckster, Al Sharpton, who asked her parents 'are you really going to do this to your kid?' (yeah, really...)
She made Houston's 'black' politician, Dave Wilson, appear credible and, well... sane.
The fashion blog, Jezebel, complimented her by saying, while a fraud, 'she definitely nailed' the hairstyle.
She responded to questions about her race by saying 'I don't give two shits what you guys think' (well, haters goanna hate, right....?)
She claimed that her ex-husband beat her and threw their son (actually her brother) across the room when he tried to stop him.
NAACP President, Cornell William Brooks, released a statement calling questions about her race 'distractions,' further saying that the organization 'applaud[s] her quality of work.'
