    Devotees often carry St. Jude’s medallions

Why he might be annoying:

    His help to those in desperate straits often comes at the last minute.
    He asked Jesus why He didn’t plan to reveal himself to the entire world after rising from the dead.
    The whereabouts of his remains is disputed.
    He may have become the patron saint of lost causes because he was often confused with Judas Iscariot, someone only a desperate person would pray to.

Why he might not be annoying:

    In the New Testament he urges believers to never give up hope no matter how hard their circumstances.
    He spread the gospel throughout much of the ancient world.
    He was martyred in Persia.
    He was popular with American immigrants in the past.
    People whom he has helped often thank him in newspaper personals.
