Her husband, Prince Hendrik of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, was an alcoholic who cheated on her.
She titled her autobiography 'Lonely But Not Alone.'

She was described as a very strong-willed monarch.
She became queen when she was only ten.
She was close to her mother, Queen Emma.
She had several miscarriages before her only child, Juliana, was born in 1909.
She kept her country neutral during World War I.
When the Nazis invaded the Netherlands, she led the Dutch government in exile.
Her radio broadcasts from London brought hope to the Dutch people.
