Why they might be annoying:

Their are a bunch of rowdy Irish drunkards.
Bassist Cait O'Riorden left the band to marry Elvis Costello.
Their top single, 'Fairytale of New York,' only reached #2. The Pet Shop Boy's 'You Were Always on My Mind' beat it out for the top spot.
After having two top ten in the UK in 1987, they were never heard of again.
Shane MacGowan's solo career never really took off and the rest of the band was never heard from again.

Why they might not be annoying:

Their unique style was a welcome change from typical synth-pop of that era.
They were a strong part of the folk revival of the 1980's.
'Fairytale of New York' was voted #84 on BBC radio 2 top 100 best songs of all time.
'Fairytale of New York' ranked #27, on VH-1's Best Songs to never reach #1.
Elvis Costello produced some of the albums.
