    Recorded the albums 'Paris One Night Stand' (1957), 'The Real Earl Hines' (1964), 'Hine's Tune' (1965), 'Once Upon A Time' (1966), 'At Home' (1969), 'My Tribute to Louis' (1971), 'Earl Hines Plays Duke Ellington' (1971), 'Hines Plays Hines' (1972), 'In New Orleans' (1977) and 'An Evening with Earl Hines' (1977)
    Inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame (1980)

Why he might be annoying:

    He left school at age 16 so he could play late-night gigs.
    His orchestra was the house band at Al Capone's Grand Terrace Cafe.
    He grunted as he played.
    He hated his nickname, which had been given to him by a radio announcer following a 'fatherly' lecture from Hines about his drinking.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Between his 1964 rediscovery and his death, he recorded over 90 albums.
    He was named best pianist in Down Beat magazine polls six times.
    Count Basie called him 'The greatest piano player in the world.'
    Despite arthritis and heart troubles, he was performing concerts up to a week before his death.
