Her father lost the family's fortune when she was 13.
She had to leave her job as a kindergarten teacher after a scandalous affair of her's was made public.
She used to pad her bra with socks.
She met her husband, Rudolph MacLeod, by answering a newspaper ad.
She spied for France during World War I, and may have been a German double agent.
No one really knows if the charges of being a German spy were concocted for political reasons or if she was indeed guilty.

Rudolph beat her when she would talk to other men, but he had many affairs of his own.
