Why he might be annoying:

He was married five times, most famously to dancer Isadora Duncan.
He and Duncan married even though she knew only about a dozen words of Russian and he knew even less English.
Touring Europe and the US with Duncan, he went on drunken rages, destroying his hotel rooms.
After the tour, he wrote, 'Only abroad did I understand how great are the merits of the Russian Revolution which has saved the world from a horrible spirit of philistinism.'
He married his fourth wife without divorcing Duncan.
He was hospitalized after having a nervous breakdown.
A few days after being released from the hopsital for Christmas, he slashed his wrists, wrote a final poem in his own blood, and hanged himself in his hotel room.

Why he might not be annoying:

Many of his poems were inspired by Russian folklore.
When he read his poems aloud, Maxim Gorky was so moved that he cried.
He became disillusioned with Communist rule and expressed his discontent in such poems as 'The Stern October Has Deceived Me.'
His writings were banned by Stalin and Khrushchev.
He was described as 'the most Russian of poets.'
