Politician

The Resume

    (November 23, 1978- )
    Born in Maysville, Kentucky
76th Secretary of State for Kentucky, elected in Nov. 2011
Won the Democratic Primary to run for United States Senate in Kentucky (May 2014)
Lost to incumbent Mitch McConnell (Nov. 2014)

Why she might be annoying:

She has a monotone sounding voice.
Her path to the nomination was largely cleared when Ashley Judd passed on a Senate run.
Her campaign announcement was described as 'the worst rollout ever' - with a press conference either surprising or confusing people.
She angered many grassroots activists and African-Americans by distancing herself from President Obama during the campaign.
Her attempt to separate herself from the President became a comic punch-line when she repeatedly refused to answer as to whether or not she had voted for Obama (despite serving as a DNC delegate in 2008 for Hillary Clinton, and in 2012 for Barack Obama).
Her reluctance to admit to voting for Obama got her dubbed 'The Mark McGwire candidate' by Rush Limbaugh.
She has also been called a Democrat Christine O'Donnell.
Her campaign was accused of going after Sen. McConnell's wife on several occasions.
She lost her Senate race, and by wide margins, despite lavish outside funding from such Dem heavyweights as the Clintons, Harvey Weinstein, and Jeffrey Katzenberg (40% to 57%).
Her concession speech was criticized as ungracious by political pundits, including those on the far Left.

Why she might not be annoying:

She is a blue collar Democrat.
Her name makes for a great seven-syllable tongue-twister.
Republicans accused her of 'elitism' when footage surfaced of her husband picking her up at the airport.
Anyone who can make Mitch McConnell mad must be doing something right.
She is a strong supporter of gun rights and appeared in a controversial campaign ad skeet shooting.
Her campaign released a statement saying 'whenever he's not busy pandering to Washington lobbyists, I welcome Senator McConnell to come shoot with me at the range any day.'
She graduated cum laude from the Washington College of Law at American University in Washington, D.C.
While at American University, she took part in public policy research for the National Kidney Foundation.
Her two grandmothers, Elsie and Thelma, became mini-celebrities by starring in a series of cute 'Grimes for Secretary of State' campaign ads in 2011.
Elsie returned to do ads for her 2014 Senate campaign, saying 'this one's for Thelma' (who had died in 2012, shortly after filming the first set of commercials).
