Why Ed Sullivan Show might be annoying:

As its target demographic was family audiences, it had a very unusual series of entertainment acts, with kiddie entertainment following rock-and-roll performers.
Ed Sullivan had a large amount of control over the show even though audiences did not tune in to see him.
They initially did not want Elvis Presley to appear on the show, but did so after several other variety shows already had him as a guest.
On Elvis Presley's final appearance on the show, he was filmed from the waist up to avoid the controversy of his previous two performances.
It had a tendency to censor parts of rock performances in order to make them less shocking for older audiences.
It helped the communist witch hunts by refusing any performer on the blacklist an appearance on the show.
It banned The Doors from appearing after they said the lyric, 'Girl we couldn't get much higher.'

Why Ed Sullivan Show might not be annoying:

It was filmed in New York City.
It is credited with introducing the Beatles to American audiences, where 71 million viewers tuned in.
It welcomed many icons from the 1960s counterculture to perform.
Ed Sullivan had to deal with racist sponsors when he featured African American performers on the show.
It gave a lot of exposure to entertainers.
It was CBS' cash cow for a long time.
It had something for everyone to watch.
Elvis Presley's first appearance on the show was watched by a record 82.6% of the television audience.
It was a victim in the purge by CBS of its rural programming, cancelled without any farewell show after more than 20 years on the air (1971).
It helped to bridge a generation gap between World War II era parents and their adolescent children.
