Why he might be annoying:

Mostly known for being one of the few Democrats to endorse Bush in 2004
He uses language that is more provocative than most other politicians.'
He initially opposed civil rights legislation.
He criticized his own party more than the Republicans (though it was often his ideas on how to revive the Democrats).
He called on the US government to repeal the 17th Amendment and restore the original of electing Senators (by state legislatures rather than by the people), which is widely regarded as far less democratic than direct elections.
He said that the direct election of senators was 'a system that stinks.'
He supported fully normalized trade relations with communist countries.
He was not initially elected to office.
He supported a constitutional amendment protecting the US flag.
His name sounds like 'Heil Hitler.'
Although a Democratic senator he addressed the Republican convention (September 2, 2004).
During an interview with Chris Matthews at the Republican convention, he told Matthews 'I wish I was over there, where I could get a little closer up into your face.' He also told Matthews 'I wish we lived in the day where you could challenge a person to a duel' (September 2, 2004).
Although the Republicans point out they are against Kerry's flip flops, they warmly welcomed him, the same guy who gave the keynote speech nominating Bill Clinton in 1992.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He spoke his mind.
He was mixed on the issues, having some left and some right-wing views.
He believed those not willing to work shouldn't get welfare.
    He supported stem-cell research.
He warned the Democrats that they were too beholden to special interest groups.
He helped cut taxes as a governor and as a senator.
He was one of the few Democrats who ignored political peril to support many efforts in the wars on terrorism and in Iraq.
He turned his life around by enlisting in the Marines.
He was married to the same woman for over fifty years.
He supported stronger sentences for domestic violence and drunk driving crimes.
