When he was growing up, he listened to the New York Dolls, The Stooges, MC5, The Ramones and The Sex Pistols.
He started playing guitar in his mid-teens.
While in college, he was a DJ for a college radio station and graduated with a philosophy degree.
He said when he was in Soundgarden: 'We're sex, drugs and rock & roll, without the sex and drugs.'
He collaborated with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Krist Novoselic, The Presidents of the United States of America and Jello Biafra.
He ranked #100 on Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitarists of All Time.
