Why Police Squad! might be annoying:

It was cancelled after just six episodes.
Unlike most TV series that premiere around September or January, its first episode aired during March.
Also unheard of in 1982, it showed two new episodes in July.
The voice over announces a completely different title than the one shown on the screen.
Only Leslie Nielsen and Ed Williams reprised their roles in the movie series.
Each episode featured a celebrity guest star that was killed off in the opening credits. Those celebrities were Lorne Greene, Georg Stanford Brown, Robert Goulet, William Shatner, Florence Henderson and William Conrad.
For no apparent reason, Rex Hamilton appeared in the opening credits as Abe Lincoln, and would return fire after getting shot at.
The Asian community filed complaints with ABC and the FCC when they featured a 'Japanese garden' (stocked with Japanese people).
They discontinued an on going gag of having Drebin's car smash into the number of garbage cans representing the number of episodes, fearing if the show went on for a long time they would need a shit load of garbage cans.

Why Police Squad! might not be annoying:

Despite only airing six episodes, it spawn the three 'Naked Gun' movies.
The show was a parody of 'Dragnet.'
The jokes were so quick that the show had to be view a number of times to get most of them.
It may have been the first complete TV series to be released on VHS (1984).
It was created by the creators of the movie 'Airplane.'
It relied on sight gags and sarcasm, and literal interpretation of words. For example, when he tells a cop to run her in, they literally 'run' her in. Dreben goes to a coat check, and the girl draws a check mark on his coat.
Typical jokes would include asking the band to play something else and the band plays a song entitled 'something else.' A guy would have dinner with a couple of tramps, of course one might think the tramps were sluts but turn out to be homeless people. Drebin goes to the club Flamingo, the night club's neon sign is a man clubbing a flamingo.
Johnny, the all knowing shoe shine boy would not only help Drebin solve his case but also advise celebrities such as Tommy LaSorda, Dr. Joyce Brothers and Dick Clark.
O.J. Simpson did not appear in the TV version.
