Why she might be annoying:

    She was ranked as one of the most liberal members of the House (tied with ten other Representatives) by the National Journal (2009).
    She compared the effort by female Democratic members of Congress to get the Senate Judiciary Committee to delay the confirmation vote for Clarence Thomas until after they heard testimony from Anita Hill to the Marines storming Iwo Jima.
    Commenting on proposed Republican bills to restrict abortion, she said, ‘In ’94, people were elected simply to come here and kill the National Endowment for the Arts. Now they’re here to kill women.’ (2011)

    Her sister died of pneumonia as a child, prompting her to obtain degrees in microbiology and public health.
    She was married to Robert Slaughter for 57 years.
    She authored a law banning insider trading by Senators and Representatives and their staffs.
    She would bring home-made pies to committee hearings.
    Republican Speaker Paul Ryan said, ‘She was tough, but unfailingly gracious.’
