Why they might be annoying:

    They were hippies!
They were known as The Warlocks before changing their name to The Grateful Dead.
They were a house band at 'acid test' parties when starting out.
They were known more for their live shows than their studio recordings.
They decided to take a six-year break from recording albums (1981-86).
Their biggest hit, 'Touch of Grey,' came 22 years after forming.
Two fans died during their 1989 tour. One was from a drug overdose while in police custody and the other was from a broken neck during a fight with the police.
Their fans refer to themselves as 'Deadheads.'

Why they might not be annoying:

They've been referred to as the most successful touring band of all time.
They toured, on average, 6 months out of every year during the 70's and 80's.
They have a strong loyal following.
Five months after Jerry collapsed into a near-fatal coma, which was brought on by his battle with diabetes, he was back on the road and touring.
Many 'Deadheads' followed the band around while they were touring only to be able to meet other 'Deadheads' and to collect tapes from concerts.
They combined bluegrass rock with the blues.
They're considered the first 'jam band.'
Basketball great Bill Walton is a huge fan of their's.
