Why he might be annoying:

In 2004, he was the oldest pitcher in the majors. He refused to retire.
He has cost the Mets many games by blowing leads.
He may owe the longevity of his career to being a favorite of Met owner Fred Wilpon.
It was reported that he asked Wilpon to fire manager Bobby Valentine.

Why he might not be annoying:

He opted for Tommy John surgery at 42, and returned to pitching.
He is only the second Met to be named team captain.
Underneath his jersey, he wears a New York City Department of Sanitation T-shirt as a tribute to his father.
When Mike Piazza joined the Mets he gave him his #31 (Mike's former #) and took #45.
