He upset many Francophones when he named his restaurant and nightclub 'Newtown.'

He is the son of the late Gilles Villeneuve.
He was given incentives by his mother to pass his weakest school subjects in order to pursue a racing career.
He is the first Canadian to win the Indy 500.
He, along with Mario Andretti and Emerson Fittipaldi are the few race car drivers to win an Indy 500 and the CART and Formula One championships in the course of their careers.
He grew up in both Canada and Monaco as a child.
