Why he might be annoying
He boycotted the opening ceremonies of the 2002 Olympics, because he was not guaranteed to light the flame.
His waist is 32 inches and his thighs are 27 inches.
He smokes cigars.
In 1980, he tried to qualify in the summer Olympics as a cyclist and said he would have defied the American boycott of the Moscow games and would have competed.
Why he might not be annoying
He holds the record for most gold medals won by a single individual in a winter olympics (five in 1980).
He personally took home more gold medals in the 1980 Olympics than Finland, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland, West Germany, Italy, Canada, Hungary, Japan, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia and France combined.
He claims he is not interested in fame or money, if he was he would have continued with his ice hockey career rather than speed skating.
He graduated Stanford Medical College and is an orthopedic surgeon.
Despite winning five gold medals at the 1980 Winter Olympics, he was overshadowed by the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team.
