The Resume

    Born in Mexico City, Mexico
    Housekeeper and nanny
Worked for EBay executive Meg Whitman between 2000 and 2009
Came forward during Whitman’s gubernatorial run to claim that she knowingly employed her illegally (September 2010)

Why she might be annoying:

She was represented by Gloria Allred.
Her representation was considered suspect because Allred was a major donor to Whitman’s opponent Jerry Brown.
She wept profusely during her press conference.
She admitted to lying about her immigration status when she was hired by Whitman.
The Whitman campaign showed proof that she provided a fake Social Security card and other fraudulent documents to get hired by Whitman.
TMZ reported that at least one other organization had come forward to claim she had pulled something similar with them.
Allred claimed that Whitman was actually the one at fault because A) she never asked if Diaz was in the country legally and B) because she disregarded letters notifying her that there were discrepancies with the Social Security number Diaz provided.
She was credited with sinking Whitman’s campaign, but she probably would have lost anyway.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was supporting her two young children at the time the Whitman family hired her.
She had come forward to the Whitmans about being an undocumented worker and about finding an immigration lawyer, only to be fired.
She had proof that the Whitmans were lying about not being notified about her status.
Some believe she was fired in order for Whitman to save face in the leadup to her gubernatorial run (she reportedly was told: ‘you don't know me and I don't know you’).
She was underpaid by Whitman and had to sue her for back-pay after Whitman lost the election (she settled out of court for $5,500).
She was honored alongside Rosario Dawson at a Los Angeles Gala in 2011.
Her coming forward wouldn’t have been as big a deal if A) Whitman hadn’t presented herself as tough-as-nails on immigration and B) if she hadn’t simultaneously tried so hard to woo Latino voters by spending money on Spanish language ads on TV and radio.
