Why he might be annoying
He is one of the most boring NASCAR drivers.
After his first Winston Cup win, he did excessive burnouts in the infield and celebrated in an over-a-top manner in victory lane.
He once drove for an owner named Mike Butz.
He raced against his crew chief in short track racing in Wisconsin, who referred to him as 'Matt the Brat.'
He scuffles with other drivers, then plays the role of the innocent victim.
He won just one race in his 2003 championship season.
He named one of his cats after Lars Ulrich.
He is a deluded egomaniac.
Why he might not be annoying
He is a relatively clean race car driver, and normally doesn't wreck other drivers.
He finished sixth in his NASCAR debut.
He was runner-up to Dale Earnhardt, Jr. twice in the Busch Series championship, but has since gone on to eclipse Earnhardt Junior's success in Cup.
Ever since he begun racing in Winston Cup, he has had the same owner, crew chief, and sponsor.
He held the points lead in 2003 for a record 33 consecutive weeks.
