He was a vegetarian.
He suffered from depression.
He had 13 children.
He was a heavy gambler.
On the eve of his marraige, he gave his wife his diary that detailed his sexual exploits with the serf women on his estate.
He suffered from such severe depression that he had to hide all the rope and guns in his house just so he wouldn't be tempted to kill himself.
His books are the epitome of the long Russian novel.
Why he might not be annoying
He was excommunicated for attacking the Christian church.
He served as a lieutenant in the Crimean War.
He did not feel that he was deserving of his wealth, and donated large amounts to the poor.
He was an outspoken pacifist and supporter of non-violent resistance.
Many of his children died in childbirth.
Just before he died, he said: 'Let me give you a piece of advice: Leo Tolstoy is not the only human being on this planet. Yet all I ever hear you talking about is Leo Tolstoy...'
