Baseball Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

His playing career was a disappointment in contrast to his managerial career.
He often said in live telecasts 'Baseball has been good to me since I quit trying to play it.'
He managed three different teams in three consecutive years during the 1970's.
He left the Mets on sour terms after he was passed over for the team's managerial job.
He got into an on-camera argument with Marv Albert, after the latter mockingly asked him if he would consider applying to become the President at Yale University.
He made many questionable player moves during his tenure as the Angels general manager.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was considered the architect of the Mets team that won their first pennant in franchise history.
He is considered a baseball icon in the state of Missouri, as he guided both the Royals and Cardinals to successful periods during the 1970's and 1980's.
He guided the Cardinals to three World Series appearances in the 1980's (1982, 1985, 1987).
He employed a strategy which saw his teams built around power hitting and speed, which was commonly known in baseball circles as 'Whiteyball.'
He is one of the last people to hold both the general manager and field manager positions at the major league level.
He had his number 24 retired by the Cardinals weeks after being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame (2010).
