Golfer

The Resume

    (September 16, 1993- )
    Born in Modesto, California
Won the NCAA Division I title (2015), the US Amateur Championship (2015), and the US Open (2020)
Based his game on Homer Kelley's instructional book 'The Golfing Machine'

Why he might be annoying:

He was nicknamed 'the mad scientist' for his idiosyncratic approach to the game, such as cutting all his irons and wedges to the same length (37.5 inches) and not turning his wrists when he swings.
He gave names to all his clubs. ('Kind of funny when you ask the caddie, 'Hey, gimme the Jimmy.' [A gap wedge])
He lost all three of his matches in his Ryder Cup debut (2018).
He is notorious for playing extremely slowly; after taking 2 minutes and 20 seconds to hit a putt during the Northern Trust Open (despite an official time limit of 40 seconds), golfer Ian Poulter said he was one of the players who 'continually disrespect their fellow pros and break the rules without a conscience.' (2019)
He complained that a cameraman filming him cursing after a bad shot was 'harming [my] image.' (2020)

Why he might not be annoying:

To improve his motor skills, he learned to golf left-handed.
He developed the longest drive on the PGA tour after gaining 40 pounds of muscle mass in 2019-20.
He is only the third player, after Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, to win the NCAA title, US Amateurs, and US Open.
Even several golfers who disliked his personality admitted to being impressed by his US Open victory.
He said, 'If you actually meet me in person, I'm not too bad of a dude.'
