Died in New York City at age 68 from being struck by a city tour bus

Why he might be annoying:

He was the youngest of four brothers, all named after British kings (he was named after King Richard the Lion-Hearted).
While performing in Michael McClure's stage play 'The Beard' in San Francisco, he and female co-star Billie Dixon were arrested and charged with 'lewd and dissolute conduct in a public place' for 'uttering obscenities and simulating sexual acts' (1965).
    He was thrice married.
The Video Hound Movie Guide falsely reported him as having died in 1998.
The driver of the tour bus that killed him never knew he had run him over with his rear wheel until he arrived at the depot, and no criminal charges were filed (though he did have his license temporarily suspended for 'failure to yield').

Why he might not be annoying:

The A.C.L.U. took on his obscenity case and won acquittal for him and his co-star.
He was good friends with director Sam Peckinpah.
He teamed with actor Al Pacino in 1971's 'The Panic in Needle Park,' then both became famous a year later in 'The Godfather.'
The pair were two of the five actors who appeared in all three 'Godfather' moves (the others were Diane Keaton, Talia Shire and Sofia Coppola).
He was a fan of William Shakespeare and gave several performances in the title role of 'Richard III.'
His third wife of nearly 30 years, actress Rutanya Alda, co-starred with him in three movies (two before they married, one after).
