He played a cigarette-smoking man on a major hit TV show.
His identity on 'The X-Files' went from 'Cancer Man' to 'Cigarette Smoking Man' to 'C.G.B. Spender, Cigarette Smoking Man.'
Why he might not be annoying
In real life, he quit smoking in the 1970's, and only smoked herbal cigarettes on screen when filming 'The X-Files.'
He is a spokesperson for the Canadian Cancer Society.
He graduated from the University of Toronto with a Philosophy degree.
He served as Assistant Director, under Sir Laurence Olivier, of the National Theatre of Great Britain.
He founded the William Davis Centre for Actors Study in Vancouver, Canada. It is open to professional actors and acting rookies alike.
Even at his age, he still enjoys water skiing and snow skiing.
