He was relieved of his post as NATO commander three months before the end of his tour of duty.

Why he might not be annoying
He helped organize the US military intervention in Kosovo.
He has honorary knighthoods from both the British and Dutch governments.
He served a total of 33 years in the US military.
He was awarded the Silver Star for valor, the Purple Heart for combat injuries (both in Vietnam).
He has also earned over a dozen other high military decorations including two Bronze Stars and three Defense Distinguished Service Medals.
His son also served in he military.
