Why Koran might be annoying
It is considered sacrilegious to destroy or discard a copy.
Scholars who study the Koran in a secular manner often receive death threats.
It is never illustrated as pictures of prophets and sacred events are considered blasphemous.
Believers must cleanse themselves before touching a copy.
It allows men to marry up to four times.
It permits husbands to beat disobedient wives.
Some verses encourage Muslims to wage war on nonbelievers.
Osama Bin Laden used it to justify the 9/11 attacks.
Samuel Pepys called it a 'bewildered rhapsody.'
A false report that a Koran had been flushed down a toilet at Guantanamo led to rioting in several countries (2002).
Why Koran might not be annoying
It celebrates married love.
It requires followers to give alms to the poor.
It teaches that all believers are equal before Allah.
Parts, such as the line ‘Let there be no compulsion in religion,’ advocate tolerance.
Many Korans are noted for their artistic calligraphy.
It acknowledges many Jewish and Christian texts, including the Torah and the Gospels.
Unlike the Old Testament, it does not blame women for humankind’s problems.
It explicitly forbids female infanticide.
It allows Muslim men (but not women) to marry Christians and Jews.
Contrary to popular belief, it does not endorse female circumcision nor honor killing.
