Why he might be annoying:

His full name, Yahya Abdul-Aziz Jimmy Junking Jammeh, is extremely long.
He took power in a coup, though a bloodless one.
He constantly conducted ‘witch hunts’ that involved kidnapping villagers and forcing them to drink a smelly liquid that made them hallucinate, causing significant deaths.
He was accused of killing 12 students in a protest (April 10, 2000-April 11, 2000).
He was connected to the massacre of 44 Ghanian migrants and 10 other West Africans (2004).
He told journalists to obey his government or ‘go to hell’ (April 2004).
He passed laws restricting press freedom after the murder of a reporter named Deyda Hydara (December 2004).
He claimed to have found a cure for HIV/AIDS and asthma with the use of a green herbal paste, a bitter yellow liquid, and bananas (2007).
He also claimed to have created a treatment for high blood pressure (August 2007).
He threatened to behead every single homosexual in Gambia if they didn’t leave the country (May 15, 2008).
Many Gambians dislike his iron-fisted rule.

Why he might not be annoying:

Gambia has enjoyed stability under his rule.
He improved hospitals, roads, and schools.
Once he became president, he established bodies with the purpose of tackling corruption and recovering stolen money from government officials.
He was one of the negotiators who ended the civil war in Guinea-Bissau.
