Skating commentators have repeatedly criticized his lack of artistry.
At the 2004 Nationals, he was in 10th place after the short program. He then withdrew from the competition.
He suffers from aviophobia.

Why he might not be annoying:

The media dubbed him 'The Quad King.'
He is the first skater to land six quadruple jumps in a competition (Skate America 1999).
He is the only skater to successfully land four quads at the Olympics (1 in the short program and 3 in the long).
He was forced to withdraw from 2004 Nationals due to multiple physical injuries.
He considers his parents to be his heroes.
