Why they might be annoying
They air video of hostages pleading for their lives, and graphic video of terrorists beheading hostages.
They received $20,000 per minute for airing the controversial Osama Bin Laden video praising the 9/11 attacks.
Critics view them as engaging in propaganda on behalf of terrorists.
They were banned from the NYSE and NASDAQ floors during the Iraqi War buildup because they posed a security threat.
An Al-Jazeera correspondent was arrested in Spain for allegedly having ties to Al-Qaeda.
The Iraqi National Congress, an anti-Saddam Hussein group, alleged that Al-Jazeera had been infiltrated by Iraqi spies that were helping the station's propaganda effort.
Iraq suspended Al-Jazeera for 'inciting anti-occupation violence, increasing ethnic and sectarian tension and being supportive of lawless resistance (September 2003).'
They often air un-validated stories, such as the false beheading of American college student Benjamin Vanderford.
Why they might not be annoying
They claim to be the only politically independent Middle East news channel.
They are the most watched news channel in the Middle East.
Unlike western news channels, they do not try to make light of the horrors of war by censoring graphic war footage.
They launched an English-language web-site to expand their audience (though it is frequently hacked).
They give air time to Israeli officials, which upsets Muslims, but gives a more balanced news perspective.
After the Saudi government shut down BBC Middle East, many BBC staffers went to work for Al-Jazeera.
