He claimed he beat up his gym teacher as a high-school student.

Why he might not be annoying:

Although he often played foul-mouthed characters, he never used profanity in real life.
He once played golf with Alice Cooper and Cheech Marin for charity (quite the image, isn't it?).
He and Lynch eventually buried the hatchet, and he appeared in Lynch's film 'Lost Highway.'
He made fun of himself in a hilarious commercial for orange juice.
