Why he might be annoying:

    He was a drug abuser.
    He was a chain smoker.
    He was an alcoholic.
    He was a vegetarian.
He promoted drug usage and smoking in his routines.
He would promote drug usage and smoking, even after he quit doing all of those things.
He had a lifelong obsession with the circumstances surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
In October, 1993, his would-be final performance on the 'Late Show with David Letterman' was censored in its entirety due to the fact it included an attack on pro-lifers. A pro-life group who was one of the show's sponsors threatened to pull it's money from CBS if it was broadcast.
He said in a letter that his Letterman appearance 'earned me more attention than my other eleven appearances on Letterman times one hundred.'
He died when he was only 32 years old.
He was a smoker's rights activist.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a creative social satirist whom a lot of people have ranked as being up there with, if not better than, other satirists such as Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor and George Carlin.
He was intelligent. He was passionate about spreading his beliefs through his stand up routines.
He would not tone down his act to appear in commercials or star in movies and sitcoms.
His targets included religion, the advertising industry, mainstream pop culture and government.
He was an advocate for freedom of speech.
He eventually quit taking drugs, drinking and smoking.
Unlike contemporaries of his time like Andrew 'Dice' Clay, Sam Kinison and Denis Leary, he never softened up his style in the name of commercial viability and movie deals.
Despite being compared to 'Dice' he avoided cheap shock value humor.
At one point, he did somewhere in the range of 250-300 performances a year.
Bands that have dedicated their albums to him include Radiohead, Tool and Rage Against the Machine.
Samples of his work can be heard on Tool's album 'Aenima.'
