He wears either an 'Incredible Hulk' or 'Tasmanian Devil' tie whenever he introduces major legislation.
He's been accused of influence peddling, insider trading and nepotism.
He sends billions of dollars in pork barrel projects to Alaska.
He warned Alaskan voters that if they elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate, then they would receive less federal money (2004).
He angrily threatened to resign if the Senate diverted money from an Alaskan pork bill to Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts (2005).
Why he might not be annoying
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He graduated from UCLA and Harvard Law School.
He helped push for Alaska statehood.
In his office, he has a surfboard and a sign that reads, 'This proves a surfing bum can find a job if he tries.'
Regarding his outbursts, he said: 'I believe in using my emotions, not losing them.'
He survived a jet crash that killed his wife (1978).
For obvious reasons, he is very popular with Alaskans.
He serves his constituents with the motto, 'The hell with politics, do what's best for Alaska.'
