Baseball Player
His actual birth name is Larry Benard.
He is best known for surrendering a walk-off grand slam to Paul Carey in the 1987 College World Series.
He had Scott Boras as an agent, who threated to take him to an rumoured upstart league that would have been financed by Donald Trump if the Orioles failed to enter negotiations with him.
His career was derailed by shoulder injuries, after he signed with the Brewers.
His last team was technically the Cleveland Indians, but he was unable to pitch for them due to the nature of his shoulder injury.
His trade to the Indians, despite being injured was considered a salary dump move, as the Brewers didn't want to pay him to be on the disabled list long term.
He was the first Louisiana State University player to be selected with the first overall pick.
He was a member of the United States baseball team that won the Gold Medal at the Summer Olympics (1988).
He was the first pitcher to be selected with the #1 overall pick to win his first three major league starts.
He was considered one of the top pitching prospects in the country during his tenure at LSU.
He admitted in the years following his retirement from baseball that his shoulder problems were a result of being overworked, and cited the lack of knowledge to pitching workloads amongst players and coaches were unheard of at that time.
