For the role of Arenas, Javier lost 30 pounds and learned to speak the Cuban-Spanish dialect and Cuban-accented English.
In 2004, he won the Best Actor trophy at the Venice Film Festival for 'The Sea Inside,' playing a quadriplegic fighting for the right to die.
