Why he might be annoying:

Despite being Jewish himself, he frequently played the WASP best friend in Woody Allen films.
He auditioned unsuccessfully four times for Woody Allen’s play ‘Don’t Drink the Water’ before Allen decided to cast him after seeing him in ‘Barefoot in the Park’; Allen later told him, ‘You were great. Why are you such a lousy auditioner?’ (‘I still don’t have a good answer to that.’)
He said about his first film role in ‘The Million Dollar Duck,’ ‘I remember thinking, 'My God, I went to college for this? I studied Shakespeare, I've been in 10 Broadway plays, and I'm barking at ducks?' Well, it was a properly humbling experience.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He was nominated for Tony Awards in consecutive years: as Best Actor in a Musical for ‘How Now, Dow Jones’ (1968) and Best Featured Actor in a Play for ‘Play It Again, Sam’ (1969).
He made six films with Woody Allen and was called his ‘perfect foil.’
He said, ‘The greatest joy is feeling part of a company of actors and the love of what we do together.’
