Advertising Agency Marden-Kane introduced Tigerino to ESSO customers
Tigerino is the world's first instant win sweepstake
Eight Billion contest tickets were handed out
Why he might be annoying
Tigerino promoted gambling.
In one of the later Tigerino games, the participants were given a letter and had to spell T-I-G-E-R-I-N-O to win a big prize, of course one of the letters was nearly impossible to get.
It appealed to the instant gratification that customers desire.
The first instant win tickets were wash off tickets, later replaced by scratch off tickets.
Why he might not be annoying
ESSO (Now know as Exxon) was a competitive car gas company.
They needed something to separate them from their competition.
They introduced Tigerino, a scratch off instant win game, and sales in the test market (Buffalo) sky rocketed 40%.
Esso advertised the slogan, 'Put a Tiger in Your Tank.'
Tigerino was later replaced by the lesser known Tigerama, where participants matched left and right half tickets to win prizes.
