Why he might be annoying:

He has been unable to protect Taiwan's economy from the global recession.
His family had to borrow money to put him through school.
The minor flesh wound he recieved during his assassination attempt may have swayed the voters' sympathies in his favor.

Why he might not be annoying:

He openly challenged Chiang Kai-Shek's policies when he disagreed with them.
He established various agencies to promote human rights.
He believes that 'Taiwan must not only stand up, but also reach out.'
He insists that policy should be moderate and pragmatic.
While maintaining Taiwan's sovereignty, he has supported greater economic relations with China.
Efficient government is one of his primary goals.
He helped expedite the vote recount requested by his opponent Lien Chan.
