The Resume

    (July 5, 1941- )
Born in Astoria, Queens, New York
Birth name is Margaret Ann Miley
Earned a Masters in Humanities at NYU
Started out with small roles on 'Guiding Light' and 'Ryan's Hope' in the late 1970s/early 80s
Acted in 'Alice,' 'The Little Princess,' 'Bandits,' 'The Back-up Plan,' 'Odd Couple II,' 'Star Trek: Insurrection,' and 'Primary Colors'
Made guest appearances on 'Frasier,' 'Boy Meets World,' 'Liv and Maddie,' 'Zeke and Luther,' 'NYPD Blue,' 'Big Love,' 'Monk,' 'Mike and Molly,' 'Six Feet Under,' and 'Modern Family'
Best known for her work in a popular Christmas television ad for Cheerios, playing grandmother to a nine-month old baby

Why she might be annoying:

She began her career on the New York soap opera circuit.
She decided to go into acting during a sabbatical in Australia.
She played a gargantuan regent of the Evora species in a 'Star Trek' movie.
She has been confused with Peggy Rea (although Google searches for her name tend to turn up images of Miley Cyrus.)
She has also been pegged as one of the fat 'shoe store customers' insulted by Married With Children's Al Bundy, but its a completely different actress.
She is active with many left-wing Democrat projects and causes, such as SAG Union protests.
She co-starred in a popular 2007 Pete Handelman 'mock rap' YouTube video, satirizing what President George W. Bush's 'final days' as President would look like.
She shilled for the universal healthcare 'single payer plan' in a California TV ad ('the way healthcare should be!')
When asked if she had a favorite project, she said 'I like them all. Usually the one you are currently working on is your favorite.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She is everyone's ideal 'grandma' figure.
She graduated from St. John's University with a degree in Literature in 1963.
She started out as a middle school/high school teacher.
She also taught students sent to her by the Riker’s Island drug rehab program.
One of her earliest movie roles was in the surprise 'family-film' hit, Alfonso Cuaron's and Emmanuel Lubezki's 'A Little Princess' (1995).
She played a supporting role in the award-winning television movie, 'Winchell' (1998).
She didn't have a favorite film, but was partial to 'The Odd Couple,' though, saying of Lemmon & Matthau, 'they were wonderful, and Walter was very giving to the smaller actors.'
The memorable ad of her with using Cheerios to show a newborn baby how far away she and the baby's relatives live, still airs periodically during the Christmas season.
The commercial famously ends with the grandmother looking at the baby and saying, 'but no matter where grandma lives, we'll always be together for Christmas,' pushing two Cheerios on the high-chair together (damn... who came into this room and started peeling onions?!)
She doesn't mind being typecast, saying 'I love the camaraderie on the set [and] by being myself it has allowed me to work more.'
She later said of the Cheerios commercial, '[it] is one of the most beautiful I’ve done. It’s beautifully written, and it gave me something to say that was natural, true and honest.'
