Why he might be annoying
He was a small-time criminal whose publicity-savvy wife, Kathryn, turned him into 'Public Enemy Number One.'
He was arrested by the FBI while hung over from a recent drinking binge.
He boasted he would escape from Leavenworth and then break out his wife, prompting a transfer to Alcatraz.
At Alcatraz, his constant boasting about crimes he never committed led other inmates to call him 'Pop Gun' Kelly.
Why he might not be annoying
He allegedly talked Kathryn out of killing their kidnapping victim, oilman Charles Urschel, on the grounds that it would be 'bad for future business.'
Urschel, despite having been blindfolded, was able to provide so many clues - particularly the times planes flew overhead - that the FBI was able to determine he had been held at the ranch of Kathryn's parents.
He became a model prisoner at Alcatraz and served as an altar boy in the prison chapel.
He wrote several remorseful letters to Urschel.
