U.S. Congressman

The Resume

    (May 20, 1950- )
    Born in Schenectady, New York
County Executive of Erie County, New York (2007-11)
Represented New York’s 27th District (First elected November 6, 2012)
    Republican
First member of Congress to endorse Donald Trump for President (February 24, 2016)
Announced he was suspending his campaign for a fourth term (August 11, 2018)

Why he might be annoying:

Two Republican assemblymen reported that during a crowded State of the State address by Governor David Paterson, he told a woman, ‘I’m sure if you offer someone a lap dance, you can find a place to sit.’ (2010)
After losing his race for reelection as Erie County Executive, he ruled out any future bid for office, then ran for Congress a year later.
In an interview about health care, he said, ‘People now don’t die from breast cancer [and] prostate cancer.’ (2012)
Deaths from breast cancer in 2012: 39,920; from prostate cancer: 28,170.
He defended Donald Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns, adding ‘I don’t think any elected official should.’
After voting to repeal Obamacare, he admitted to a reporter that he was unaware that New York would lose $3 billion in federal funds annually as a result (2017).
He and his son Cameron were arrested and charged with insider trading and lying to the FBI (August 8, 2018).
He reportedly had called his son during a Congressional picnic on the White House lawn with information about a failed clinical drug trial at Innate Immunotherapeutics (a company he was a board member of), enabling Cameron and members of his fiancé’s family to save $768,000 by selling before the news became public.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was an Eagle Scout and won the Silver Beaver for contributions to scouting.
During his first eighteen months as Erie County Executive, he donated his salary to local charities.
He did not sell any of his own shares of Innate (albeit, mainly because he was already being investigated by the Office of Congressional Ethics for improperly using his office to benefit Innate).
