    Head of the Fifth Air Force in Japan (1993-1996)

    Commander of the Pacific Air Forces in Hawaii (1997-1998)
    Commander of three air and space commands including NORAD (1998-2000)

    Decorations include two Defense Distinguished Service Medals, the Legion of Merit, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 4 Meritorious Service Medals, and 19 Air Medals

Why he might be annoying:

    He visited the Chinese Communist army for political reasons.
    He loves appearing at press conferences with Donald Rumsfeld but doesn't talk nearly as much.
    Someone is trying to sell a video of one of his speeches for $30.
    He was afraid of planes during his childhood after seeing one crash; his parents had to force him to watch takeoffs and landings to overcome this.
    He stopped playing the saxophone after the September 11th terrorist attacks.

    He advocated for the missile defense shield.
    He has over 5000 flight hours and has flown three types of fighters, some in combat.
    He is popular among fellow officers and his superiors.
    He was confirmed by the Senate by a wide margin.
    He is the first Chairman of the JCS from the Air Force in 20 years.
    When asked why people serve in the military, he said: 'We serve because of each and every one of you.'
    He is experienced in the military application of technology.
