    Wrote plays 'Mulatto,' 'Black Nativity,' and 'Don't You Want to Be Free?'
    Guggenheim Fellow and a Rosenwald Fellow
    He fought racism.
    Hughes wrote jingles to inspire the troops in World War II.
    His poetry is filled with rhythm.
    His poetry was sad and funny at the same time.
    He was inspired by Walt Whitman.
    Although he dropped out of Columbia University, he went on to finish college at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.
    CES 236 in the Bronx is named in his honor.
