    Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico
    Republican Senator representing New Mexico (January 3, 1973-January 3, 2009)
    He was allegedly instrumental in the firing of U.S. Attorney David Iglesias by the Bush administration.
    As a result, he was investigated by the federal government on obstruction of justice charges.
    He had a mixed record on immigration issues, though, his own mother was an illegal immigrant.
    He admitted to fathering a secret child with the daughter of fellow Senator, Paul Laxalt (February 20, 2013).
    At the time of the affair, Domenici was 46 and Laxalt's daughter, Michelle, was 24.
    He was an early proponent of, and later became one of the Senate's leading voices for, nuclear power.
    He earned his law degree at the University of Denver.
    He pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers' minor league team, the Albuquerque Dukes.
    He was the first Republican Senator elected from New Mexico in nearly four decades.
    After leaving the Senate, he fellowed at the Bipartisan Policy Center.
