    Portrayed Jackie Erwin in 'The Stu Erwin Show' (1950-55) and Zelda Gilroy in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (1959-63)
    Assistant/Associate Dean of Students at UCLA (1969-75)
    Co-founder of the California Women's Law Center (1989)
    Served in the California State Assembly (1994-2000) and State Senate (2000-08)

Why she might be annoying:

    She made up boyfriends to keep the producers of 'Dobie Gillis' from discovering her lesbianism.
    She said, 'I thought of myself as unattractive, because that's what everyone said about Zelda.'
    She landed few acting jobs after 'Dobie Gillis' went off the air.
    She contemplated driving her car off a cliff when she realized her acting career was over: 'I thought I better kill myself, because I didn't know what I was going to do.'

    She was expelled from her sorority when the sisters discovered letters from her girlfriend.
    At Harvard, she was elected class marshall and president of the law school student council.
    She was the first openly gay person elected to the California state legislature.
