Scientist

The Resume

    (August 13, 1918-November 19, 2013)
    Born in Gloucestershire, United Kingdom
    British biochemist
Two time winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1958 and 1980)
    Quaker and pacifist
    BA and PhD from Cambridge

Why he might be annoying:

He did his PhD dissertation on potatoes.
He protested the Iraq war but never protested Sadaam Hussein's brutal dictatorship.
He sat out WWII as a conscientious objector.

Why he might not be annoying:

He won his first Nobel (for research on insulin's amino acids) only three years after the research was completed and his second (for developing the dideoxy method of sequencing DNA) only five years after completing that research. Both are incredible achievements since Nobel Prizes in Chemistry are usually awarded decades after the work that earns the prize takes place.
He is one of only four people to win two Noble Prizes and the only one to earn two in chemistry.
    He is humble.
Though officially retired since 1983, he still volunteers to help other scientists out when he is able.
