Why he might be annoying
His death could have been preventable.
He collided with Ed Carpenter's disabled car while going 176 mph. 176 mph is incredibly fast for a driver who knew he was approaching a yellow flag zone.
His wife Tonya was Rahal Letterman Racing official Chief Pit Babe.
Why he might not be annoying
His teammates Buddy Rice and Danica Patrick did not race at the Toyota Indy 300 out of respect.
He raced for David Letterman's race team.
He graduated from Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
He has written for AutoWeek, Sports Illustrated and Maxim.
He suffered a spinal fracture injury during a practice run at the Indianapolis 500 in 2005. This caused him to miss the entire 2005 season.
