    He continued performing even after losing his eyesight because of glaucoma in 2002.
    Atlanta declared January 12, 2007, Mighty Hannibal Day to honor his work in civil rights in his hometown.
    His songs were included in the cult film 'Velvet Goldmine,' spurring a resurgence of interest in his work.
    One music writer noted, 'Just the footnotes to his storied musical career would make for a fascinating biography.'
