Actor
    (July 12, 1930- )
Born in Grand Falls, Dominion of Newfoundland, Canada
Private in the Royal Canadian Regiment (1950s)
Films include ‘The Thomas Crown Affair (1968 version),’ ‘Blacula,’ ‘Klondike Fever,’ and ‘Babar: The Movie’
TV appearances include ‘Scarlett Hill,’ ‘The Forest Rangers,’ ‘Quentin Durgens, M.P.,’ ‘A Gift to Last,’ ‘Babar (voice),’ ‘Due South (recurring),’ ‘Republic of Doyle (recurring)’ and ‘The Red Green Show
Autobiographies include ‘My Way (1992)’ and ‘Next (2012)’
Officer of the Order of Canada (1998 Companion)
2004 Governor General’s Performing Arts Award winner
2007 Canada’s Walk of Fame honoree
His father, a papermill worker, comes from a Newfie town known as… Dildo.
He was crippled by rickets very early in his life.
His dramatic reading of Justin Bieber’s autobiography, on a 2010 episode of This Hour Has 22 Minutes, went viral.
Media sources can’t seem to agree on the year of his OOC honor.
Asked about his icons, he named his wife and daughter — and mistakenly referred to the latter as his Kryptonite (which he thought was a source of strength)!
He regards Spencer Tracy and Zane Grey as icons.
His first significant role was on the Hallmark Hall of Fame — stateside. That set off a string of guest parts on American prime-time.
As evidenced by his screenplays ‘The Rowdyman’ and ‘John and the Missus,’ for which he won best acting honors, Newfoundland settings are critical to his roles.
His daughter Leah – his only child by his second wife (of some 45 years) – became an actress in her own right (Made in Canada, on which he made an appearance).
For his 75th birthday, the Arts & Culture Centre in his hometown became the Gordon Pinsent Centre for the Arts.
